Introduction:

Laika was named in memory of a non-fictional canine raised on the harsh streets of the USSR back in 1957. This stray mongrel was selected to occupy a soviet spacecraft named the ‘Sputnik 2’ and was the first animal to have ever been sent into space. Orbiting the earth with no capacity for salvation, she died of overheating and/or suffocation just a few hours in. She inspires hope as a symbol of exploration, sacrifice and courage. A small monument has since been built in her honor, depicting her atop a rocket. We choose to honor Laika in our own way, by reincarnating her into a cryptocurrency coin launched on the Ethereum blockchain and sending her to the moon. This time however, with capacity and intent for salvation.

$Laika Coin was first discovered through a viral medium article posted anonymously on July 30th. The author, who refers to him/herself as ‘No One’ (@RetiredNobody), depicts a crypto space unlike the one we have grown to love. A space rife with scammers looking to take advantage of the hype behind the various crypto seasons mentioned in the article, meme coin season, launchpad season, metaverse season, NFT season, rebase season, to name a few. The article gives readers an in-depth view into the mind of a serial schemer and the manipulative patterns and ploys used. At the end of the dark and twisted article lay Laika, patiently, like a beam of light.

The article leaves readers with three main points:

1. Worshipping founders as gods always ends badly, “such is centralization”.

2. A founder’s true worth is reflected by their project performance long term.

3. Coins do not scam people, founders do.

The founder created this coin with a vision of calling scammers out on their bullshit while renouncing the reigns. He didn’t make friends writing it and his motivation wasn’t self-centered, but instead to console and inform retail investors in sharing the truth. We assume the founder has since retired, having gone somewhere quiet, to “work with his hands.” We wish the founder well and thank him for the opportunity.

Laika is our symbol of truth and she rests safely in the hands of the community. A community known as the #LaikaArmy, who have overcome endless adversity in the form of scammers, spammers, bots and FUD. A community that has banded together through common values and goals. We are all previously mis-led investors wanting to shed light on the dangers and scams that are occurring every day in this space. We want to encourage people to do more research into investments, become better informed when making decisions, and to better protect their crypto assets.

It is important for us to highlight the distinction between coins and founders. Our goal is really a community of investors behind a noble cause and reignite their confidence in the space: one by one.
